Kildare hurlers were denied Kehoe Cup victory by a 14 man Westmeath at St Conleth's Park, Newbridge. The Lake County put Kildare to the sword with a four point victory despite late Kildare efforts. Westmeath put down a very early marker in the first half, finding the net through Derek McNicholas after just a few seconds.

Westmeath lead 1-09 to 0-07 at the break and used that lead as a platform for victory, despite having half-forward Enda Loughlin sent off for his second yellow of the afternoon. Ardclough's Martin Fitzgerald did bag himself another Kehoe Cup goal in the 2nd half, but Kildare couldn't bridge the gap and Westmeath ran out deserved winners.
